Walking Through Holy Week
Holy Week Home Stretch
Well friends, we’re in the home stretch of these Lenten devotionals and we’re just days away from the most important moments in the entire Christian year! Without Jesus’ death, sacrifice and resurrection, there would be no Christianity. This is what we have been preparing for this entire time.
We have spent a long time looking at the theme of holiness throughout the Old Testament, the life of Jesus, the fruit of the spirit and the lives of the saints. I thought it would be good to spend the rest of Holy Week reflecting on the hours that led up to Jesus’ death as they really speak to the weight of his sacrifice.
Walking to the Cross
Over the next few days we’ll look at Jesus agony in the garden, his trial with Pilate, the torture he endured and the long walk to Calvary. We’ll arrive at Good Friday and Jesus’ death with a deeper sense of his suffering, which was endured for you and for me.
We can pray this prayer today:
Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the Cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Amen.1
Just as the prayer above states, Jesus suffered pain before he entering into joy and glory. So as we spend these next few days walking with Jesus along the path of His pain and suffering, we can bring our present sufferings to the foot of His cross.
Preparing Our Hearts
Jesus endured excruciating pain and suffering on our behalf and his sacrifice extends to each one of us so that we might live in Him. Jesus can give our weary hearts rest. We can reflect today on the burdens we feel in our hearts and in our lives. How can we lay them at His cross this week?
